We had the pleasure of being featured in an article published by Corriere della Sera, dedicated to our developing project. This is an innovative energy storage system based on the second life of electric vehicle batteries. In particular, we use modules sourced from vehicles that are no longer suitable for automotive use.
The idea was developed by Dr. Giuseppe Perito, founder of Perito Group. The company is active in battery pack recycling and reuse. For this reason, the project represents a concrete step toward a more sustainable model.
Solar energy storage with second-life batteries
The project aims to reuse end-of-life batteries to create solar energy storage systems. In this way, energy produced during the day can be stored and later used during peak demand hours.
As a result, households and businesses can reduce energy costs while improving overall system efficiency. This approach makes the second life of electric vehicle batteries a practical and valuable solution.
Testing, innovation and advanced technology
In addition, the project is being developed in collaboration with RSE (Ricerca Sistema Energetico) in Milan. Diagnostic tests are carried out on the modules to analyze degradation and estimate remaining lifetime.
Based on these studies, a prototype of a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) will be developed. The system will also integrate a Battery Management System (BMS), enabling efficient and safe direct management of second-life modules.
A sustainable model for the future of energy
Overall, the goal is to develop modular accumulators for renewable energy storage, reducing both waste and disposal costs.
Finally, Dr. Perito highlights a key point: since batteries cannot be fully regenerated, the best solution is to give them a new function. The second life of EV batteries thus becomes a valuable resource.
This model contributes to environmental sustainability while fostering innovation in both the automotive and energy sectors.
